For Different Leaf, our goal was to make cannabis-infused dining feel less like a high-stakes science experiment and more like an extension of thoughtful home cooking. Through storytelling, photography, and hands-on experimentation, we explored the challenges and joys of hosting a well-dosed dinner, balancing curiosity with caution.

Laura’s photography captured the textures and warmth of shared meals, while Colin’s writing unpacked the learning curve of infusions, the social dynamics of edibles, and the art of pacing a meal that keeps guests engaged—not couch-locked. Together, we created a piece that demystifies cannabis in the kitchen, offering readers not just recipes, but a roadmap for gathering, experimenting, and indulging with intention.

"Phew—people were high. This was perfect timing for our last dish of the night, a staple of the edible lexicon: pot brownies. Clocking in at roughly three to four milligrams each, they were the perfect balance of burnt sugar and savory herbs, and a dish that quite honestly had the potential to push people over the edge. Fortunately, we made a whole tray of noninfused brownies as well."

"Around 11:15, nearly five hours after the evening started, people started to filter home, leaving us with one ultimate question left to answer ourselves: Was it a success?

"By most accounts, yes. Beyond all our very low expectations, we’d created a dinner that infused cannabis into our foods. We’d paced it with precision and varied it with different culinary vibes, culminating in a party that did what it was supposed to: bring people together under one roof for the first time in more than a year."
